TAMPA, Fla. – K-W United FC forward Sven Koenig has earned PDL Player of the Week honors after scoring a hat trick against Derby City Rovers during Week 6.
Koenig scored his first goal of the match in the 27th minute, and netted his final two in the 4-3 win during the second half at Wilfrid Laurier University. Friday’s hat trick was Koenig’s second of the year, as he netted three against the Dayton Dutch Lions on May 27.
Reading United AC’s Paul Marie earns Team of the Week honors for the second time in the 2016 regular season after scoring two goals against the Baltimore Bohemians.
PDL Team of the Week
GK – Nick Velleca, AC Connecticut: Central Connecticut State University’s Velleca made nine saves in AC Connecticut’s 1-0 victory against FA Euro New York on Saturday.
D – Matthew Castellan, SC United Bantams: Castellan was instrumental in preventing South Georgia Tormenta FC from scoring at Erk Russell Park, and he scored the game-winner in the 79th minute of the 1-0 road win for the Bantams.
D – Cameron Botes, Charlotte Eagles: Lipscomb University’s Botes was the key man in the back line for the Eagles against the Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors and Tri-Cities Otters, helping his side record two shutout wins.
D – Cameron Barksdale, Southern California Seahorses: Graceland University’s Barksdale provided three assists in the Seahorses’ 4-1 win against La Laguna FC on Tuesday, June 7.
D – Sylvain N’Guessan, Jersey Express: N'Guessan scored one goal and was pivotal for the Express in the midfield during Week 6, helping his side earn wins against the Lehigh Valley United Sonic and New York Red Bulls U23.
M – Lucas Coutinho, South Florida Surf: Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Coutinho scored once and assisted twice in a pair of Surf wins over The Villages SC and IMG Academy Bradenton.
M – Paul Marie, Reading United AC: For a second time this season, Florida International University’s Marie has earned Team of the Week honors. The midfielder scored twice in a difficult road match against the Bohemians.
M – Leigh Veidman, Des Moines Menace: Veidman scored back-to-back game-winners on the road against rivals the Thunder Bay Chill on Friday and Saturday.
F – Newton Henry, Mississippi Brilla FC: The University of Mobile’s Henry scored the game-winner in Brilla FC’s 2-1 win over OKC Energy U23 on Friday, and netted the game-tying goal against Energy U23 on Sunday.
F – Daniel Musovski, Burlingame Dragons FC: UNLV’s Musovski scored a hat trick in Dragons FC’s 4-1 win against San Francisco City FC at Burlingame High School on Friday.
F – Sven Koenig, K-W United FC: Hawaii Pacific University’s Konig scored a hat trick to lead K-W United to a 4-3 victory over the Rovers.
