Chevaughn Walsh, named PDL MVP following a strong 2016 PDL regular season, has been signed by the USL’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Walsh scored 14 goals and provided three assists during the 2016 regular season for the Ocean City Nor’easters, earning him 2016 PDL All-League Team honors, Golden Boot honors and MVP honors. The Riverhounds hope to have Walsh available for selection by the start of September, as the club awaits the approval of his visa application.

“We think Chevaughn can be a really good forward. He’s still young, but he can be good right away and he’s only going to get better,” Riverhounds Head Coach Dave Brandt said. “If it’s possible to call the PDL MVP an uncovered diamond, or a diamond in the rough, I just think until recently nobody knew about him, and he really exploded onto the PDL scene with a big year. And we’re thrilled to have him here – it’s just a really good, and big, signing for the club.”

Walsh finished the season ranked second on the 2016 PDL Top Prospects list – only behind Fresno Fuego forward Christian Chaney, who was recently signed by USL club Sacramento Republic FC.

“Chevaughn is truly an impressive talent,” Nor’easters General Manager Kevin Nuss said. “As a player that came from very meager beginnings in Jamaica, Chevy is incredibly humble and appreciative of every opportunity he has earned. The combination of his on-the-field ability, willingness to work hard, be a great teammate and give back to the community is truly impressive. He is an excellent example of the character of Ocean City, New Jersey, and what we value at the Nor'easters."

The Riverhounds have eight games remaining in the 2016 USL regular season, and they will travel to Rochester Rhinos Stadium to play the Rochester Rhinos at 6:05 p.m. ET on Saturday.

“Chevaughn truly has raw talent and has continued to improve at every level he has participated, from a first-team NJCAA All-American at Jefferson College to PDL Most Valuable Player," Nuss said. "As he continues to tap into his natural abilities, refine his talents and mature as a person and a player, Chevaughn is a player with the potential of a very long and successful professional career. Everyone in Ocean City, New Jersey, is excited to follow Chevy on his journey.”
