TAMPA, Fla. – Scarves have become an ingrained aspect of soccer culture in the United States and around the world, with supporters, players, coaches and owners using them to express their love for the game and show support for their team. Today, the PDL announces a new partnership with Ruffneck Scarves, the nation’s leading soccer scarf supplier. Ruffneck Scarves will serve as the “Official Scarf Provider” of the PDL through 2017.
“Partnering with Ruffneck Scarves is an exciting opportunity for the PDL,” PDL Director Todd Eason said. “We have worked with Ruffneck in the past and have always appreciated their attention to detail and professional service. When it comes to producing league and team scarves, Ruffneck has been the leader and we look forward to the excellence that they provide.”
Ruffneck Scarves will serve as the presenting partner of the new PDL Golden Scarf Awards Program, which will begin in 2016 and honor the PDL teams that excel in marketing, creativity and promotion during the season. The program will give clubs opportunities to gain additional recognition and share best practices among the league and its teams.
The highest level of amateur soccer in North America, the PDL has a 22-year history of helping top-level players rise to the professional ranks. Among the PDL’s alumni include U.S. Men’s National Team members Brad Guzan, Geoff Cameron, Jordan Morris and DeAndre Yedlin, as well as budding MLS stars in Keegan Rosenberry and Brandon Vincent.
The 2016 PDL season featured 67 teams in four conferences throughout the United States and Canada, with 12 of the league’s members being owned and operated by an MLS or USL club, or holding a partnership with an MLS or USL club.
Founded in 2007, Ruffneck Scarves has been the “Official Scarf Provider” of the USL since 2014 and also partners with U.S. Soccer, MLS and the NCAA. Company co-founders Jeff McIntyre and Erin O’Brien created Ruffneck Scarves with a “fan-first” model in mind, providing scarves that represent the passion and pride fans have for their clubs.
“We have a wealth of experience working with clubs new and old at the PDL across the United States and Canada,” McIntyre said. “We are positioned to work closely with PDL teams to develop scarf-based marketing and fan development programs to build a stronger club brand in each team’s respective community.”
