Calgary Foothills FC defender Tyrin Hutchings is in a unique and advantageous position in his upcoming professional career.

Hutchings was recently selected by FC Gute, a Swedish Football Division 2 squad. But what makes Hutchings’ situation a beneficial one is the club’s caliber of play, as it potentially could be promoted to Swedish Football Division 1 next year.

“Hutch is a great example of hard work and perseverance,” Foothills FC Head Coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said. “He is relentless in his pursuit of furthering his game through his drive, and it shows in his training. He makes all opposing strikers’ lives a nightmare through his strong, physical and brave defending.”

“I am delighted to have recently signed with FC Gute,” Hutchings said. “Sweden is a beautiful country and I am excited for the opportunity to grow as a footballer and person.”

Hutchings helped Calgary advance to the 2016 PDL Final, where the club finished runner-up to the Michigan Bucks. He has spent a large portion of his development with the Foothills organization, starting with the U15s. He helped the club win a U18 Canadian National Championship in 2009.

Hutchings joined the Whitecaps Residency Program in 2010 and then played for the PDL’s Thunder Bay Chill (2011), but he returned the Alberta thereafter. Hutchings played collegiately for the University of Alberta and Mount Royal, and he played for Foothills FC’s PDL club in 2015 and 2016.

“I have Foothills to thank for many of my opportunities,” Hutchings said. “I grew up in the academy and most recently with the PDL team. I have grown to be the player I am and the person I am through the Foothills way.”
