Timbers U23’s Michaelson, Fuego’s Nus among players selected

TAMPA, Fla. – A total of seven teams – the Portland Timbers U23, Victoria Highlanders FC, FC Golden State Force, Fresno Fuego, FC Tucson, FC Boulder U23 and Colorado Rapids U23 – are represented in the 2017 Premier Development League All-Western Conference Team.

Four players – Christo Michaelson, Moshe Perez, Jose Carrera-Garcia and Sergi Nus – are a part of the fifth edition of the 2017 PDL Top Prospects list. The All-Western Conference selections were voted on by members of the conference.

2017 All-Western Conference Team:

GK – Jordan Farr, Portland Timbers U23: The Corban University talent turned heads in the 2017 regular season, making 30 saves in 12 games (1,080). Farr recorded a 0.83 goals-against average to help the Timbers U23 secure their first Northwest Division title since 2011.
D – Sergi Nus, Fresno Fuego: The University of Virginia standout – ranked 13th on the fifth edition of the 2017 PDL Top Prospects list – helped the Fuego record five shutouts en route to earning a berth in the PDL Playoffs. Nus also provided two assists in 13 games (1,071 minutes).
D – Scott DeVoss, Colorado Rapids U23: The University of Denver standout caught the eyes of many in the Mountain Division. DeVoss impressed in 11 games (900 minutes) during the Rapids U23’s 2017 PDL campaign.
D – Sho Goto, Victoria Highlanders FC: In 13 games (1,117 minutes), Goto helped Highlanders FC record three shutouts, but he also impressed moving forward into the attack. He recorded team-highs in goals (5) and assists (3) during the year.
D – Wouter Verstraaten, Portland Timbers U23: The University of the Pacific talent stood out in the Northwest Division while helping the Timbers U23 record five shutouts on their way to a division title. He played in all 14 games (1,205 minutes) for the club during the campaign.
M – Moshe Perez, FC Tucson: The Colorado Mesa University talent – ranked 22nd on the fifth edition of the PDL Top Prospects list – scored a Mountain Division-high 12 goals during the 2017 campaign for Tucson. He also recorded one assist in 12 games (718 minutes), helping the club clinch a fourth consecutive PDL division title.
M – Christo Michaelson, Portland Timbers U23: The Gonzaga University talent – ranked 24th on the fifth edition of the PDL Top Prospects list – shined in the midfield for the Timbers U23, scoring three goals and recording one assist in 12 games (972 minutes). He proved to be an integral part of the club’s success, as the Timbers U23 won the Northwest Division title.
M – Jose Carrera-Garcia, FC Golden State Force: Carrera-Garcia, who competes at the University of California, Berkeley, showcased his abilities in the Southwest Division, scoring six goals and providing two assists in eight games (609 minutes). He also is ranked 25th on the fifth edition of the PDL Top Prospects list.
F – Mark Verso, FC Golden State Force: Verso, who was named to the 2016 PDL All-Western Conference Team, scored a Western Conference-high 13 goals for the Force during the 2017 campaign. Verso also provided five assists in 13 games (1,075 minutes).
F – Ryosuke Kinoshita, FC Boulder U23: Kinoshita scored a team-high 10 goals and also provided two assists for the Boulder U23. The forward played in all 14 games (1,069 minutes) for the club, helping it finish its inaugural season with an 8-4-2 record.
F – Jose Cuevas, Fresno Fuego: In 13 games (977 minutes), Cuevas scored a team-high 11 goals and also provided six assists to lead the Fuego to the 2017 PDL Playoffs.

Honorable Mentions: GK – Dylon Powley, Calgary Foothills FC; D – Dillon Nino, Albuquerque Sol F.C.; Dean Northover, Calgary Foothills FC; M – Tate Schmitt, FC Tucson; M – Adam Jones, Sounders FC U23; F – Matthew Wiesenfarth, Burlingame Dragons FC; F – Renato Bustamante, Fresno Fuego
