Opoku has competed the past two summers in the Premier Development League with AC Connecticut, appearing in eight matches ahead of his sophomore and junior seasons at Virginia. The Ghana-born forward broke out in 2017 for the Cavaliers, scoring eight goals and recording four assists over the team's 20 matches. He was named All-ACC Third Team in his freshman season and All-ACC Second Team each of the past two years, earning Opoku an invite to this week's Combine.
Opoku joins the previously announced duo of Michigan Bucks midfielder Francis Atuahene and Reading United AC midfielder Mo Adams in this season's GA class. MLS also announced the addition of several other PDL alums to the Combine invitees, including FC Golden State Force midfielder Jose Carrera-Garcia, SIMA Aguilas forward Diego Campos, Burlingame Dragons defender Josh Morton and Mississippi Brilla FC defender Thomas Vancaeyezeele.
The league also announced the withdrawal of three PDL alums from the combine, as D.C. United U23's Jake Rozhansky, TSS FC Rovers' Rafael Sanchez and Burlingame Dragons' Drew Skundrich will not be participating, though Skundrich will remain eligible for the SuperDraft.
