Midfielder tallies opening goal during draw against Revs

Jersey Express alum Thomas McNamara was a bright spot for an otherwise disappointing result for New York City FC this past weekend in Major League Soccer action. McNamara scored a 10th-minute goal for New York City FC during the team’s 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution on Saturday at Yankee Stadium.

McNamara headed home a rebound off of David Villa’s initial shot that caromed off the crossbar. With that follow-up effort, McNamara now has two goals this season, but it was a bitter pill to swallow as the club could not hang onto the early advantage at home.

McNamara also drew the foul that led to Gershon Koffie’s ejection in the 51st minute to allow NYCFC to play up a man for the remainder of the match.

With the score tied at 1-1 at the time of Koffie’s dismissal, NYCFC couldn’t find the go-ahead goal to grab three points at home.

“It’s a disappointing one,” McNamara said. “We didn’t play as we felt like we should have. Given the circumstances of the game we didn’t get out of it what we wanted to get out of it. It’s disappointing.

“When you’re up a man for a large portion of the game, you’ve gotta get something out of it.”
